Description

Editorial designers are often in-demand for their unique skill at distilling and presenting content in a variety of media. From printed publications to digital reports, or corporate presentations to online marketing materials, editorial designers lay out content for impactful consumption. In this project-focused course, explore editorial layout and content for print and digital applications such as books, websites and social media. Learn to identify and display content with effective visual hierarchy and conceptual art direction no matter the format. Use various design software synchronously to achieve effective layouts, adjust images and graphics, and prepare final files for press/output methods. While this course includes some software demonstration, prior experience with Adobe CC is required.

What You'll Learn

  1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of both layout and software to create polished digital and print designs.
  2. Use Adobe tools simultaneously to create cohesive layouts that integrate both imagery and text.
  3. Apply image processing techniques considering colour space and resolution, to ensure optimal digital viewing and print quality.
  4. Select and manipulate typography to achieve a harmonious blend of legibility, readability and aesthetic appeal.
  5. Analyze and construct flexible grid systems that strategically guide visual hierarchy and enhance the readability of layouts.
  6. Explore storytelling methods and content display across different media formats.
  7. Understand the role of art direction in translating content into visually compelling designs that effectively communicate concepts and messages.
