Bio

Natalie is a Vancouver-based art director, publication designer, brand strategist and design educator who brings brands, content and minds to life with strategic design, multi-platform publishing and clear communication style. Her professional experience is primarily focused in art direction, editorial design, and marketing in the magazine industry. When not busy designing for clients in the private sector or teaching at ECU and SFU, she is likely heading to her pottery studio to make ceramics for her small business, Nima Stoneware.

Explore the art of typography, from the precision of letterforms to the creation of custom typefaces for specific design purposes. In this course, you'll learn to craft typographic hierarchies that capture attention and evoke response, whether for print or digital media. Experiment with kinetic typography, considering type in motion graphics and film, and enhance your design skills through hands-on projects and case studies of influential type designers. Using both analog and digital tools, you'll create custom typographic forms and develop layouts for various mediums, including publications, advertisements, and websites. Prior experience with Adobe CC is required.

Examine and apply colour and colour theory to visual design in this introductory graphic design course. Explore the impact of colour psychology and symbolism in creative applications, and practice harnessing colour to enhance meaning and ensure accessible and inclusive design standards.
