Join us for the opening of No Small Dose of Magic: A Picture Book Showcase on Monday, February 2. The exhibition runs until February 14.

Curated by Sarah Green, the exhibition features work by 21 emerging illustrators and artists from the Audain Faculty of Art, highlighting their exploration of the picture book as a narrative medium.

About the Exhibition

In No Small Dose of Magic: A Picture Book Showcase, 21 ECU students from ILUS 306: Picture Books and ILUS 410: Senior Studio courses demonstrate how illustration can shape worlds, convey complex ideas, and activate the imagination through form, narrative and visual language.

The exhibition asks emerging ECU illustrators to respond to specific cultural contexts and the practical concerns of contemporary illustration, bringing together professional awareness with critical inquiry into the social and cultural meanings embedded in images.

The exhibition features fairy tales, childhood-inspired stories, nonfiction narratives, graphic novels, and — true to its title — no small dose of magic. Together, these works highlight illustration’s capacity to move between the personal and the cultural, the playful and the political, offering insight into how illustrated stories both reflect and shape the worlds we inhabit.
