Emily Carr Chorus is an ECU community choir open to students, faculty, staff and alumni.
We gather weekly to sing songs from various musical traditions. All voices are welcome! No previous experience necessary!
Science has proven that singing together has beneficial health outcomes: singing opens and enhances our lungs’ capacity; it relieves stress and tension; it improves memory; it boosts self-confidence. Singing in harmony is a powerful and joyful way to feel resonance and connection with others. Singing is fun and it’s good for us!
Emily Carr Chorus is led by Sharon Bayly, a singer/song leader and shop technician in the 4th floor Stretchers + Surfaces wood shop at Emily Carr.
Sharon has been singing in choirs for over 30 years, and since 2017 has been a song leader with various community choirs: Local Vocals (dir. Anna Baignoche) / Accapellaboratory (dir. Patti Powell) / Rhythm’n’Roots (dir. Karla Mundy). Sharon initiated Singing in the Stairwell at ECU in 2018 and then joined forces with Jane Slemon and Joy Onj in 2022 to co-lead Emily Sings in the Stairwell.
She is delighted to lead Emily Carr Chorus and hopes it will support and uplift the ECU community in voice, spirit and song!
Come out and humm, drone, croon, purr, whisper and warble with us!
