Detention Stories is a storytelling initiative that documents the lived experiences of immigration detention in Canada. Created by Efrat Arbel, Professor at the University of British Columbia Allard School of Law, through collaboration with lawyers, artists, and lived-experience experts, Detention Stories opens a window into the inner workings of Canadaʼs immigration detention system by combining legal research, graphic storytelling, film, and virtual reality.
Join us for a critical discussion on the making of Detention Stories, and the role of art in bringing urgent human rights issues into public view. This moderated panel discussion will be followed by a Q/A session & screenings of the Detention Stories VR experience.
Panelists:
Efrat Arbel (Law Professor, Project Creator)
Edward Madojemu (Technical Artist, Virtual Reality Creator)
Lois Klassen (Moderator)
Yanmi (Lived-Experience Storyteller, Virtual Reality Co-Creator)
