ACCESS NOW

Providing an opportunity for disabled artists to celebrate their work and asking people to reflect upon accessibility throughout the university.

ACCESS NOW is a collective exhibition for students who self identify as disabled, mad, crip or neurodivergent.

By encouraging visibility, we hope to further student engagement, encourage funding and develop a sense of community that’s missing on campus. In a broader sense, this work activates a part of the student body that is currently underrepresented.

Accessibility in art and design is a hot topic that many students are eager to learn about and involve into their practice. As an institution that prides itself on forward thinking and innovation, it’s our duty to advocate for the topic of “access”.

While there is work being done, there’s also a collective desire to further integrate principles of universal design, accessibility and disabled identities into the ECU’s curriculum and culture. With centennial celebrations underway, now is the perfect time to spark discussions about possible futures for the university.
