What You’ll Learn

This program combines experimental approaches to art-making, writing, and creative research through online studio classes, online research seminars and two immersive summer residencies. The online-first structure supports ongoing creative work in your home studio while fostering year-round rich engagement with peers, faculty and visiting artists.

Coursework emphasizes critical dialogue, independent research, and intensive studio practice. In support of a thesis project, you will refine your creative voice and expand your practice through a combination of material exploration and critical reflection.

Program Highlights

  • Combine synchronous online coursework in fall and spring with an immersive summer residency in Vancouver to support sustained creative growth
  • Develop a thesis project that integrates material exploration and theory, culminating in a final exhibition and defense
  • Advance your practice from your home studio while engaging in critique, mentorship, and research through online learning tools
  • Connect with your MFA peers and the wider ECU community through year-round programming, events, and professional development opportunities
