| Description (ECIAD) | Charcoal has a long history as a drawing medium,
used by artists for centuries to explore line,
value, and form. This three-day workshop
introduces the fundamentals of charcoal through
practical exercises and observational studies.
Students will work with different types of
charcoal, such as vine and compressed, while
learning foundational techniques like blending,
lifting, and layering to build contrast and
texture. Basic principles of light and shadow will
be introduced to help develop a sense of volume
and depth in drawing. The workshop offers the
opportunity to work from still life and natural
forms, with a focus on understanding the technical
process and richness of charcoal.
