Priority Restrictions + Releases
Restriction/priority rules are applied when certain courses are given first priority to the students that require them to complete their degree. Subsequently, the courses will be opened up to other students in the following releases:
- Degree rule release: when students in the same program or degree stream can register
- All University rule release: when students across all university program areas can register
- View the Spring 2025 Sections Priority + Release Schedule.
NOTE: Some courses and/or sections are excluded entirely from the priority releases – they are noted as such in the Spring 2025 Sections Priority + Release Schedule.
The schedule is subject to change, including time, day and faculty changes. Check the Student Planning site regularly for updates.
Withdrawal Process
If you need to withdraw from courses during the Spring term, please keep in mind the following dates and what they mean for your grades:
- If you decide to withdraw from all courses before the start of the term (January 6), there will be no record of the courses on your transcript and you will be responsible for 25% of the tuition of one 3-credit class.
- If you decide to withdraw from all courses after the term begins but before the end of the drop period (January 6 through January 13), you will be responsible for 25% of the tuition of one (1) of your courses. A “W” grade will be recorded on your transcript for this course and does not affect your GPA.
- If you decide to withdraw from any courses (even from one course) after the drop period ends (January 13), a “W” grade will be recorded on your transcript for each withdrawn course and you will not be eligible for a refund. However, the “W” grade does not affect your GPA. Course withdrawal requests received after the withdrawal deadline (March 14) will result in a grade of “F” being assigned.
Failure to pay your tuition fees by the tuition deadline will be treated as a withdrawal. You will be removed from your courses, a “W” grade will be recorded and you will be responsible for full tuition fees.
Going on Exchange
If you are a third-year student on Student Exchange, you do not need to register for Emily Carr University courses for the term when you are abroad at a partner institution. While you are on exchange, you will still need to register for your returning term at Emily Carr University.
