Join us at 5pm on Nov. 5, 2026, in the Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons at Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECU), for an opening reception for It Feels Like One Hundred Years, an exhibition spotlighting the diverse practices of professional staff at ECU.

On view through Nov. 17, the show models the many ways artists and designers balance parallel commitments to working lives and creative practices, contributing meaningfully to both communities.

Building on 2025’s Community of Practice, ECU’s first all-staff exhibition in almost three decades, It Feels Like One Hundred Years features works from across art and design disciplines created by ECU administrative and support staff working in areas such as Technical Services, Human Resources, Media Resources, Facilities, Academic Administration, Advancement, Information Technology Services, Communications + Marketing and Counselling + Wellness.

It Feels Like One Hundred Years illuminates the depth and richness of creative engagements that inform the expertise of technicians and workers across the university. Held in conjunction with ECU 100, the university’s centennial celebrations, the exhibition also offers a unique opportunity for the broader community to engage with new perspectives on how arts communities are fostered and sustained.
