This year, 48 students were honoured with graduation awards for their extraordinary work and accomplishments.
The Graduating Class of 2024 produced one of the most dynamic and versatile offerings of The Show, ECU’s annual student exhibition.

Our reputable judges conferred 56 graduation awards and honourable mentions to these students for their phenomenal achievements. In total, 30 students received awards valued at $28,325 based on their works and screenings exhibited in the online exhibition and screenings at The Show, their GPAs, or a combination of the two.
Several students received multiple awards and honourable mentions:
- Kamila Bashir (BDes) won the DESIS Radical Sustainability Award and received an honourable mention for the Emily Carr Alumni Association Graduation Award for Community Engagement for their project Let’s Talk Housing.
- Nevada Lynn won the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia: Outstanding Achievement in the Arts and received honourable mentions for the Emily Carr Alumni Association Graduation Award for Community Engagement and Mary Plumb Blade Award for their project, Kohkum & Keffiyeh.
- Andream Bollen (BFA) won the John C. Kerr Chancellor Emeritus Awards for Excellence in Visual Arts and the Saralee James Memorial Award for their project Headspace.
- Nathania Wijaya (BMA) won the John C. Kerr Chancellor Emeritus Awards for Excellence in Media Arts and jointly shared an honourable mention for the President’s Media Awards for Excellence – Best in 3D Computer Animation with Hei Ching (Kathy) Cheung, Luka Hinić, Tristan Wei, and Rachel Wen for their short film, Rhythm of Rain.
- Luka Hinić won the Sophie Burnett Memorial Award and jointly shared an honourable mention for the President’s Media Awards for Excellence – Best in 3D Computer Animation with the above co-directors of Rhythm of Rain.
- Theo Chen won the VIVO Distribution Award and received an honourable mention for the President’s Media Awards for Excellence – Best in Film/Live Action for their project, Bad People.
- Toluwanimi Martins won the ECU Graduation Award for Anti-Racism and Social Justice – Design and the Emily Carr Alumni Association Graduation Award for Community Engagement for their project, Manicure Mixer: Design Lessons from a Black Beauty Salon
- Jeeyoung Kong won the Mary Plumb Blade Award and received an honourable mention for ECU Graduation Awards for Anti-Racism and Social Justice – Visual Arts for their project, My Life is Not Your Porn.
The university is thankful to our esteemed donors, who enable us to keep supporting emerging and innovative artists. The juries are comprised of industry experts, curators, and art collectors who deliberated and selected the winners. This year, 22 students were selected to receive honourable mentions.
