Honouring lived experiences, stories and legacies through storytelling, teachings, ceremony and art.

Honouring Our Grandmothers Healing Journey is a movement that brings generations of Indigenous people together with other nationalities along the Pacific Northwest, focusing on the mountains, salmons and ocean of the Fraser and Thompson river watersheds.

The heart of this journey are the stories told by the thirteen Indigenous artists who, through the visual artwork they place on their cedar bentwood traveling message chests, share their relationships with their grandmothers, families, nations, ancestors and Mother Earth.

Nadine Spence is a Naka’pamux and Secwepemc mother, grandmother and artist. Her hometown is Spences Bridge, B.C. and she now resides in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

Nadine graduated from the University of Fraser Valley with Honours and went on to receive a certificate and diploma in fashion design. Her fashion incorporates Indigenous design elements in an environmentally conscious manner, utilizing natural fabrics, dyes, and recycled materials.
