Experience ECU through image, video and story, wherever you are in the world.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECU) has launched its new website, providing a clear and user-friendly experience to enhance its recruitment and storytelling efforts.

The site is the result of a 15-month project led by the Communications & Marketing team with support from IT Services and external partners Pixel and Messenger. The project incorporated months of consultation and collaboration with faculty and campus partners, working towards a shared goal of improving usability while reflecting the creativity, innovation and community at the heart of ECU.

“Emily Carr University of Art + Design is known for its practice-based approach to learning,” said Kayla Stuckart, Executive Director of Communications, Marketing + Public Affairs. “From the outset, we knew the new site needed to lean into photography and video that show how students learn here, because that experience is materially different. The result is a more immersive, story-driven site that helps audiences or prospective students from around the world see our spaces and studios, and understand what is means to study and create at ECU.”

In 2025, the site attracted over 930,000 visitors from around the world who were interested in learning more about what makes ECU Canada’s #1 university for art and design. These analytics helped inform decisions around content structure, functionality and design priorities. By clearly highlighting programs, extended learning and research, the new site enables online audiences to navigate and explore information quickly and easily.

Through contemporary design and a student-centred approach, the new website marks the first major update since 2017 and supports a key pillar of the 2024–2030 Strategic Plan by strengthening digital tools focused on enhancing the learning environment and user experience.

“This project reflects a broader shift in how ECU approaches its digital ecosystem,” said Sandeep Sidhu, Chief Information Officer at the institution. “Through close collaboration across units, we’ve strategically simplified our systems to strengthen our web governance and improve cybersecurity while positioning the university to scale and adapt over time.”

What’s New on the Website

  •  Immersive Visual Storytelling – Bold, photography-led visuals of our people and spaces, along with updated campus tour videos and multimedia storytelling that vividly showcase the ECU experience online.
  • Simpler Navigation – A clearer, more intuitive menu and layout, making it easier to find information quickly through simplified menus.
  • Audience Resource Hubs – Dedicated department hubs to help staff, faculty and students find the internal forms and information they need.
  • Streamlined Applications for Continuing Studies – Clearer course visibility for those interested in extended learning opportunities and a simplified self-service payment process for students.
  • Improved Accessibility – Enhanced program pages and an updated faculty and staff directory that highlights the expertise and passions of the people behind ECU’s teaching, research and creative practices.
