Description

Explore the art of typography, from the precision of letterforms to the creation of custom typefaces for specific design purposes. In this course, you’ll learn to craft typographic hierarchies that capture attention and evoke response, whether for print or digital media. Experiment with kinetic typography, considering type in motion graphics and film, and enhance your design skills through hands-on projects and case studies of influential type designers. Using both analog and digital tools, you'll create custom typographic forms and develop layouts for various mediums, including publications, advertisements, and websites. Prior experience with Adobe CC is required.

What You'll Learn

  1. Identify and define typographic anatomy and terminology.
  2. Examine historical and contemporary type designers and type design in traditional and digital media.
  3. Apply typographic anatomy to hone micro-typography in glyph design (e.g., serifs, terminals, links, ears, spurs).
  4. Create and apply typographic palettes for specific design applications, such as book covers, posters, and advertisements.
  5. Develop expressive typographic compositions that convey emotion and meaning using type as image.
  6. Evaluate and refine typographic designs to create emotionally impactful compositions.
