All voices are welcome at our community choir!
Science has proven that singing together has beneficial health outcomes. Singing opens and enhances our lungs’ capacity, it relieves stress and tension, it improves memory. Singing in harmony with others is a powerful and joyful way to find connection and resonance together. Singing allows us to express ourselves and boost self-confidence.
In short…singing is good for us!
Emily Carr Chorus is a welcoming sonic space, open to all voices and all levels of vocal experience, led by Sharon Bayly, a singer/song leader and shop technician in the Stretchers + Surfaces wood shop.

Abut Sharon Bayly
Sharon has been singing in choirs for over 30 years, and since 2017 has been a song leader with various community choirs: Local Vocals (dir. Anna Baignoche) / Accapellaboratory (dir. Patti Powell) / Rhythm’n’Roots (dir. Karla Mundy).
Sharon initiated Singing in the Stairwell at ECU in 2018 and then joined forces with Jane Slemon and Joy Onj in 2022 to co-lead Emily Sings in the Stairwell.
Since 2023 she has led Emily Carr Chorus with support from the Student Union for the use of their space. She hopes EC Chorus can help support and uplift the ECU community in voice, spirit and song!
