Sean really loves making. He realized many years ago that he likes to help put together amazing things, whether they are comprised of his own ideas, others’ dreams or a collaboration of both.

Harry holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and joinery certificate from BCIT. His experience is in wooden furniture and sculpture fabrication.

Joseph Band is a designer, furniture maker and workshop technician. With a background in design and sculpture, his work blends functional craft with sculptural expression, creating furniture and objects that balance material sensitivity, experimentation and utility. Alongside his studio practice, he works in the workshops at ECU supporting students as they develop hands-on skills with tools and materials while fostering curiosity, confidence and creative problem-solving.

Sharon likes working in a culture of creative, critical thinkers. She values the process of art making as a way of seeing and understanding oneself and the complex/contradictory relationship to one’s environment.

Aja loves the community that exists within ECU. She finds it inspiring working with staff and faculty who have personal art practices, and loves working with students to help them realize their ideas.

Fostering the development of student’s creative skills provides considerable personal satisfaction for Rob.

Art schools are unique environments where people have a chance to be around constant creation, invention and imagination. Maya finds it inspiring to see how students and colleagues go about making work, especially when they explore pushing the limits of what is known to be possible within a particular process, or find a neat workaround. Also, a lot of process-based practice needs passing down to keep it alive and keeping those analogue processes going is a big deal.

Brian’s role has been to guide students in turning their conceptual ideas into tangible outcomes. Students share their ideas, and together they conceive of a suitable pathway to fabricate a project. Developing the student’s shop skills to support that pathway is an extremely rewarding process for him. The students are always coming up with ideas that challenge them to find solutions together.

Gil likes to share resources with people to encourage collaboration and experimentation. He wants to encourage animators to be versatile in a variety of mediums and to explore beyond the bounds of animation into sound, design, architecture, etc.
