Support for Faculty Research
Most full-time faculty at Emily Carr, and many sessional faculty members, are pursuing their own creative practices in art and design and in research projects, in addition to careers as educators and leaders.
The Research + Industry Office (RIO) supports faculty researchers with a wide range of services:
- Post-award support and management of grant funds
- Assist researchers with administration of their research projects
- Identify funding sources and grant opportunitie
- Grant writing support
- Development of industry partnerships
Research Ethics Board
Emily Carr University promotes a high standard of ethics and integrity in research and scholarship. All university-affiliated research involving human participants requires prior review and approval from the Emily Carr University Research Ethics Board (ECU-REB).

Funding Resources

Research Support Fund
The Research Support Fund is a Federal program that assists Canadian post-secondary institutions with the indirect costs of research — the costs incurred by a university in supporting, managing, and housing research activity.
The Research Support Fund has been instrumental in growing research at Emily Carr. Our ability to support Faculty in applying and managing their grant funds has increased the number of Faculty involved in research.

I am faculty planning to apply for internal funding (SIG Exchange / Explore, the ECU Internal Research Fund), what do I do?
You need to apply through the online Research Management System, Process Pathways Romeo. Please sign in using your ECUAD email and the password you have created, click Apply New, and under the ‘Application Name’ table, choose the correct form for the program you are applying to. The Research + Industry Office has developed detailed SIG Explore application guidelines and detailed SIG Exchange application guidelines.
I am faculty planning to apply for the Ian Gillespie Design Research Grants or the Ian Gillespie Design Technology Fund, what do I do?
You need to apply through the online Research Management System, Process Pathways Romeo. Please sign in using your ECUAD email and the password you have created, click Apply New, and under the ‘Application Name’ table, chose the ‘Ian Gillespie Design Research Grant Form’.

I am faculty with a research project planning to apply for external funding or to enter into a possible partnership. What do I do?
You need to fill in a form through the online Research Management System. Please sign in using your ECUAD email and the password you have created, click Apply New, and under the ‘Application Name’ table, choose the ‘Research Project Info Sheet’.

I have been asked to make revisions to my submitted file. What do I do?
You need to log in to the online Research Management System and edit your file. Detailed instructions can be found here: Revisions_requested_completion_guidance.pdf
I am a researcher with an active research project and I need to submit some extra documentation eg. report, updated declaration, etc. What do I do?
You need to upload the documentation on your file through the online Research Management System. Please sign in using your ECUAD email and password and follow the instructions in this document: Event_form_completion_guidance_updated_images.pdf
I need information about research data management.
Researchers need to get acquainted with the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy.
