Description

As technologies evolve so do user expectations, along with the potential to transform the way we interact with digital interfaces and products. With more companies adopting emerging technologies, new career opportunities present themselves for UX designers with expertise in emergent tech. This course offers an in-depth exploration of the ever-evolving landscape of technology and its impact on user experience (UX) design, ranging from speculative design, artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), blockchain, big data, and immersive environments. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on activities, and projects, you will explore ethical considerations, design constraints, and opportunities unique to each technology, with the goal of discovering human-centered solutions that address real-world challenges.

What You'll Learn

  2. Evaluate the role of the designer in adapting to new trends in emergent, disruptive technologies, to generate innovative and meaningful design solutions
  3. Synthesize speculative design and design fiction methodologies to generate and test user experiences for potential future scenarios
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of design fiction techniques in creating compelling and immersive user experiences, and develop strategies for integrating them into UX design processes.
  5. Evaluate the evolving capabilities of artificial intelligence in user-centered design, and propose innovative ways to incorporate AI with user experiences.
  6. Create immersive and engaging user experiences for AR/VR environments, by applying spatial design principles, interaction patterns, and accessibility considerations in novel and creative ways.
  7. Critique the ethical, social, and environmental impacts of emerging technologies in UX design, and develop a responsible approach to innovation that prioritizes human needs.
  8. Communicate the findings and insights gained from the speculative design and design fiction process using a range of visual, verbal, and written formats to facilitate understanding and engagement.
