Exhibition + Critique FAQs

The hours of the MOEC are the same as the hours of the school.

Exhibitions at the MOEC + RBC Media Gallery run for an average of 10 days, which includes one day for installation and one day for de-installation.

In some instances, organizers of exhibitions may be able to obtain a liquor license, depending on location and time. Please contact exhibitions@ecuad.ca for more information.

Paint is supplied by the Libby Leshgold Gallery. Contact the gallery technicians at exhibitions@ecuad.ca.

There is no central storage for plinths. Exhibiting artists are responsible for providing their own plinths.

Yes. Please note that the RBC is booked separately from Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the MOEC.

Artworks that require the use of darkened space will be given precedence for exhibition in the RBC Media Gallery.

Like the MOEC, the hours of the RBC Media gallery are the same as the hours of the school.

The Libby Leshgold Gallery and its project spaces are publicly funded, professionally curated spaces. Participation in exhibitions and events is by invite only.

The gallery does not actively review unsolicited submissions. Please contact libby@ecuad.ca for more information about gallery programming.

Installation with electric or electronic components, or special lights, should have an on/off instruction sheet. Ensure that the process of turning the work on and off is as simple as possible, and that it is accessible to the monitors but secured from public interference. Past experience has shown that pieces containing electrical power and/or electrical equipment are often cause for concern. Therefore, students wishing to utilize electrical power/equipment in their piece are requested to seek the assistance of Technical Services to ensure that their piece is not dangerous. If an extension cord is to be used, it should be capable of handling the power of the electrical load. Any artwork or exhibit found to be unsafe will require modifications defined by the Safety Committee; should it prove impossible to make the piece safe it will be removed from the exhibition.

*220 volt electrical power is not available for any exhibits or artwork.

Computer installations must take into consideration environmental conditions such as ventilation, temperature and electrical safety. If your project requires the computer to be in a confined or restricted area, it must be ventilated, dry, and accessible for maintenance. These details are best caught and accounted for as early as possible through discussions with the Faculty rep and the computer technician concerning furniture and display options.

When selecting or designing your furniture/display, keep the following in mind:

1. Will you build the furniture/display?
2. Are there any suitable plinths/tables/desks already available on campus?
3. Are you going to hide, or leave visible the wires, cables and cords?
4. How will you minimize the possibility of equipment theft?
5. Where are the power outlets? Are they working?
6. Where will the mouse sit? Will you need a mouse pad? Will its cord reach to the computer location?
7. Does the video monitor have enough space on top of the plinth/table/desks?
8. Where will the security cable and lock securely attach to?

IMPORTANT: Students need to prepare their exhibition space (including any painting, decorating, etc.), put furniture in place (plinth/table/desk), and supply all extension cords, power bars, cable extenders, headphones and any other
equipment necessary before making arrangements with computer technicians to deliver their computers. If the exhibition space is not ready, or if there are equipment security or safety concerns, the computer will be held until these issues are remedied.
