Outgoing Student Exchanges
Explore new cultures, study at leading art and design schools worldwide, and grow as an artist through our Student Exchange Program. Each year, ECU students study abroad while we welcome visiting students into our studios to share ideas, inspiration and creative energy.
An exchange can challenge your assumptions, shift your process and leave a lasting mark on your work.

Academic Eligibility Requirements
To apply, you must have and maintain:
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
Students are assessed by GPA and nominated to one partner school based on preferences. Each institution can host a maximum of two ECU students per year, so selection is competitive.
How to Apply
If nominated, you’ll apply directly to the partner institution following confirmation from Emily Carr University. The partner school’s application may require submitting a portfolio, transcript and reference letter.
Final admission decisions are made by the host school — nomination by ECU does not guarantee acceptance at the partner school.
- Application deadline: January 15 (annually)
- 2026/2027 cycle: Closed January 15, 2026
- 2027/2028 cycle: Opens November 2026
