Bio

Interdisciplinary designer who has navigated across mechanical engineering, outdoor equipment and education, health design from products to policy, and designing with more than human beings. Raymond's family spends most of their time wandering the coastline, slipping on rocks and noticing all the unique and amazing species we live with in Nanaimo, B.C.

Research Interests

Raymond's research includes making and prototyping as ways of noticing, learning and being in living systems. He explores participatory methods, ecological materials, sustainability, health, K-12 education and systemic design as interconnected fields, with particular attention to how design pedagogy can support ecological literacy and cultivate more reciprocal relationships between people and more than human beings.

Description

This course offers the opportunity to explore specific issues and texts in the humanities. The issues and readings will vary but students will gain a better understanding of contemporary thought and methods in philosophy, history, or literature, especially as they relate to critical issues in design.

Industrial Design INDD 318 27/SP

Description

This course focuses on practical hands-on methods for sustainable design. Students will have the opportunity to apply sustainable design strategies to support the development of a product of their choosing, such as their degree project. This course fosters application of a spectrum of approaches including Life Cycle Assessment, product longevity, design for repair, persuasive design, product-service-systems, systems design, design for composting and others.

Priority is given to INDD students in Years 3 and 4. Students outside of the registration priority group may register/waitlist for this course as of the registration rule release date.

Industrial Design INDD 410 27/SP

Description

This team-taught course offers exposure to key aspects (values, concepts and skills) of 3D and 4D Design. Students independently engage in design research and methods, analyze, design, present and evaluate ideas to meet required objectives though individual and group projects. Discussion and reflection help students make informed decisions about their personal and professional development. Collaborative and contextual project work is emphasized in order to develop students' community-based multidisciplinary teamwork, project management and client management skills.
