Bio
Leslie is dedicated to promoting safety in the arts and guiding students to cultivate lifelong safe artistic practices. A former student at ECU, she has over 20 years of experience as a Print Media Technician and an Occupational Health and Safety Officer at ECU. Leslie combines institutional knowledge with integrity and a genuine passion for safety. She has a unique perspective, understanding the needs of both artists and safety professionals. She aims to inspire and support the next generation of artists. Leslie respectfully acknowledges that she creates on the unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ Nations.
Research Interests
Outside of ECU, Leslie is a mother and an artist who challenges conventional notions of parenting, beauty, identity, relationships and boundaries through her diverse artistic practice. Through her art she explores her identity and the intimate bond of motherhood, inviting viewers to contemplate how significant experiences impact our understanding of self. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from ECU (2005), she works in painting, printmaking and sculpture to create thought-provoking pieces that resonate with personal as well as collective experiences.
