Research Interests
Hillary’s art practice is in textile and ceramic mediums, combining process intensive techniques such as hand-built pottery, hand embroidery and natural dyeing. Slow and meditative, the practice of hand embroidery and hand-built pottery lends itself to mindfulness and focus, embodying a sense of calm beauty, with a hint of playfulness. Her current creative research direction is an exploration into the modern human imprint on wild places, and what infrastructure is deemed necessary to support those who visit, and live, in places that are difficult to get to, using clay as a means to explore land and the ways we interact with it. As a librarian, Hillary is committed to the fields of art and information and providing exceptional library service in creative ways to engage library users in an art and design university environment. In the field of information management, her research includes integrating new technology into the learning environment, as well as teaching information literacy, responsible conduct of research, and research data management.
