Bio

David Bergman is a life-long learner interested in many things including coding and robotics, interaction design, 3D modeling and prototyping, biomedical engineering, communication design, psychology, and saving the planet. His Bachelors degree, from SFU, is in Molecular and Cell Biology. He studied computer programming, including signal processing and game design at BCIT, and his Masters degree is from the School of Interactive Art and Technology at SFU in the field of information visualization: design, Gestalt theory, UX and mental map preservation.


Research Interests

David has been teaching at the post-secondary level since 2004 while doing various freelance work in scripting and graphic design. Recently, he has been teaching Computer Science, Perception and Science, and Digital Graphics at ECU, and Adobe Photoshop and AI, HTML and CSS at the University of the Fraser Valley. He has also taught robotics, building and coding. He also has experience in 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving and sewing. He enjoys working in an environment with healthy social interaction and doing work that helps people - and hopefully the environment and society.

Description

Illustration is a dynamic practice linking images to text, distilling thematic concepts through relatable imagery, and catching the attention of an audience. It has been used to illuminate text throughout human history and has become a sought after skill in various creative industries, including video games, animation, and visual effects. Artistic and creative directors, digital and technical artists, as well as production and design teams look to illustration as a key component to creative development. In this course you will be lead through hands-on projects, presentations, discussions and critiques that will expose you to a variety of techniques, media and styles as you explore how content, design elements and materials are used in the translation of ideas into images.
