Bio
Clare has been providing support to the Emily Carr University Research Ethics Board as Coordinator since 2026. She administers research applications made by faculty and students conducting research with human participants and provides the university community with resources on research ethics.
Research Interests
In her art practice, Clare works primarily in photography with documentary as its basis. She is concerned with the politics of feminist and diasporic identity, labour, and place while in communion with the historical past and historical present. Clare’s practice extends into other forms of making such as flânerie, adapting archival materials, writing, video, and performance. She has exhibited across so-called Canada — including at the Surrey Art Gallery, Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art, Two Rivers Gallery, The Works Art and Design Festival, and The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery — and has been supported by BC Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts, and SSHRC grants. Born in Singapore and raised there and also in the Toronto area, Clare is a first generation immigrant-settler and a daughter, auntie, and mother. She finds rootedness in tides and birdsong, berry picking, and small space living.
