This course explores a range of creative processes to develop ways to connect thinking, making, and writing in an art and design context. Students will learn to contextualize projects in social, political, ecological and personal ways and engage in creative problem solving through iteration, experimentation, improvisation, and adapting to accidental discoveries as a generative part of the creative process. Through process-based learning and practice, students will experiment with interdisciplinary explorations framed by research skill development through collaborative projects, peer reviews, discussions, individual assignments, and critique-based studio sessions. Students will produce multiple versions of ideas from concept to content to creatively solve problems while determining new ways to view art + design practice overall.

This three-credit elective course focuses on contemporary topics in Interdisciplinary Design. Students will undertake immersive educational experiences that expand their skills and understanding of design through interdisciplinary projects.

Film + Screen Arts FMSA 350 26/FA

Description

This studio course offers students the opportunity to develop projects around a proposed topic that responds to contemporary film and/or media arts. The course offers historical, theoretical, technical and craft insights into a range of practices associated with the topic. Students learn how to position their work in relation to relevant discourses and cultural frameworks. Depending on the specific instructor and subject area, the class may participate in field trips, group critiques, discussions of readings, individual and collaborative film and/or media arts creation, and craft or technical workshops.

Animation ANIM 338 26/FA

Description

This studio course introduces students to motion graphics concepts and visual effects techniques in the context of digital animation production. Creative projects in the course will incorporate complex layering, transparency and mattes, motion and timing, and the animation of text and visual effects. Through a series of presentations, tutorials, related assignments and projects, individual and group critiques, students will learn basic production techniques and develop an understanding of the process of creating motion graphics for video and animation.
