DescriptionThis course will navigate the boundaries of contemporary cinema and the moving image by challenging conventional relationships between participants and the screen while exploring a range of filmic modalities, media practices, themes and genres. The core emphasis of this course is expanding the discipline of film through exploring and creating works of moving image and sound in a creative and contemporary fashion.  Students will identify and develop media practices in expanded cinema by incorporating the cinematic moving image through film, video, multi-media or immersive environments in exhibition-oriented contexts. Skills and knowledge in film production from previous semesters will provide the foundation for innovative and creative risk-taking that embraces the cinematic moving image. Students are encouraged to work with the moving image and the field of expanded cinema in process-oriented and exploratory ways. Projects and coursework are inclusive of individual and collaborative approaches, and guide students to refine their conceptual, analytical and technical skills.
