DescriptionIn this class, the wheel is explored as a tool for creating hollow forms to be utilized in various contexts. Students will deepen their basic skill set in using the wheel, such as mastering centering, pulling, trimming, and form development, to gain intermediate skills. The focus of this class is to develop a comprehensive understanding and skill set in using the wheel for production and development of forms. Additionally, students will enhance their skills in kiln protocols and glaze application. Using clay and the wheel as tools for production, students acquire practical, critical, and historical understanding to analyze ceramics and pottery within contemporary culture and current art practices. The course structure includes demonstrations, discussions, and presentations. Assigned and self-directed projects are developed and evaluated through critiques.
