Bio
Joey is a queer second generation Chinese settler who was born on Treaty 13 Territory, and has been residing on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Territories since 2022. Joey holds a Master of Social Work and has been working to support the mental health of students for 10 years. Joey strives to keep their work values-based, centring around a relational and anti-colonial lens. Joey leads Wellness programming which works to connect the student body by destigmatizing counselling and mental health, addressing diverse student needs such as food insecurity, fostering self-esteem, combatting social isolation, and teaching life skills.
Research Interests
Joey loves getting to know people, believes deeply in the power of community building and operating from a place of love and care. Joey's creativity stems from having a big imagination and can often be found dreaming and learning about how things can be done differently. Joey loves being in the bush, connecting through food, art, culture and identity.
