Bio

Vanessa holds Master’s degrees in art history and library and information science from the University of Texas at Austin. Before becoming the University Librarian at ECU, Vanessa held leadership positions in art libraries at Stanford University and the University of British Columbia. Her main creative practice is music, and she began her university studies as a piano performance major. She has also studied voice and sings in choirs and bands. Vanessa enjoys photography, travel, karaoke, reading and spending time with her Havanese dog Cosmo.

Vanessa’s research and writing interests include artists’ archives, artists’ books, bias in library classification systems, the future of art libraries and art publishing and more.
