Explore the intersection of creativity and critical thought.
A major designed to give you the best of both worlds, Critical + Cultural Practice blends creative studio work with a liberal arts education where material exploration and critical analysis work together.
Build your ideas through writing, theory and practice, and graduate ready to create thoughtful, impactful work.

What You’ll Learn
In this interdisciplinary program, you’ll study art history, design history, media theory and the social sciences while continuing to make art.
At ECU, academic courses typically make up 30 to 50 per cent of a degree, but they form the core in Critical + Cultural Practice.
You’ll learn to research, write and present ideas with clarity, while studio electives give you space to experiment and create. With support from practicing artists and scholars, you’ll graduate ready to engage critically, and creatively, with the world around you.
