Bio

Artem Struyanskiy was born in 1995 in Klimovsk, Russia. He is a multimedia artist with primary focus in drawing and painting, exploring the intersections of contemporary imagery, philosophy of technology, and mysticism. His work depicts the limits of the viewer's imagination, and inevitably investigates patterns of anthropocentric ordering of chaos. His artworks are exhibited internationally and held in private and public collections.

Research Interests

Artem's research explores post-digital aesthetics, AI-generated and synthetic imagery, image circulation and memetic culture, and noise - both visual and sonic - as a condition for emergence. He is interested in cosmotechnics and the intersection of technology with ritual, mysticism and esoteric systems, as well as the survival and reappearance of archaic imagery within contemporary culture. His work examines unstable boundaries between self and other, and the ways desire, noise and ambiguity generate new forms of connection, perception and existence.

Description

This Senior Studio (Open Studio) course provides students with the opportunity to propose and develop a self-directed body of work. Sections are taught by a singular faculty member or offered in a team-taught model with the option of discipline specificity. Whether through assigned projects, artistic production, research, discussions, writing and critique, students are expected to increase their understanding of the content and context of their process and production as well as their knowledge of contemporary art. Students meet regularly for group seminars as well as in one-to-one tutorials with their instructor(s). Critiques and discussions complement studio production where considerable independent time and maturity is expected.
