Safety + Incident Reporting

Stay Safe + Know What To Do

This page connects you to the right resources, whether you need to report an incident, respond to a crisis, or simply learn how to be safe on campus. Help is available quickly, respectfully, and with care.

In an Emergency

Call 9-1-1 if you’re in immediate danger or need urgent medical assistance.

Then call Campus Security at 604-844-3838 (or use any black security phone on campus – dial 3838) for immediate support and first aid.

Campus Security staff are always on campus. The Security Desk is located on Level 2, behind Reception. In addition to handling safety concerns, they can provide first aid, grant room access and escort you to your vehicle or bus stop.

Emergency Preparedness

Being ready for emergencies is part of how we care for one another as a community. Preparedness helps us stay resilient.

Knowing how to respond in a crisis means we can act quickly and stay safe together. One easy thing you can do to prepare is to register for Emily Alerts, our campus emergency notification system. Find out how on our Emergency Preparedness page.

Sexual Violence Prevention and Support

Sexual violence includes any physical, verbal or psychological action that targets someone’s sexuality. It can happen in person or online. If it’s happened to you, it’s not your fault.

If you’ve experienced or witnessed sexual or gender-based violence, support is available. Learn how to get help, explore your options for reporting, and access campus and community resources. This page also offers guidance for those supporting someone else, with information grounded in care, consent and your right to decide what happens next.

Report an Incident

If you have experienced or witnessed harm, such as sexual violence, harassment, or discrimination, help is available. ECU staff can guide you through your options, including informal resolution, anonymous reporting or formal processes. We will also connect you with support services that focus on your safety, well-being and privacy.

Overdose Prevention + Response

Since 2016, B.C.’s toxic drug crisis has claimed over 15,000 lives. Learn how ECU is working to increase awareness, increase naloxone access and connect our community with support.

For suspected overdose or poisoning, call 911 first, then Campus Security. Naloxone (also known as Narcan) is available at Campus Security, Reception, Student Services and at the Library.

Student Safety, Governance + Policies

ECU is committed to providing all students with a safe and respectful learning environment. Students are expected to follow the safety practices outlined in the university’s policies and procedures.
