Bio

Haig Armen is a designer, professor and professional musician exploring the intersection of technology, musical instruments, and digital interfaces. He has been faculty at ECU since 2010. His courses include Making Data Interactive, Designing for Startups, and Creating Networked Objects.

Research Interests

Haig’s research explores the intersection of emergent technologies and traditional instrument design, examining how digital advancements can enhance musical expression while preserving the tactility of acoustic instruments. He facilitates sonic interaction courses and workshops, guiding participants as they explore the connections between sound, technology and human experience. Through collaborations with artists, engineers and researchers, Haig develops tools that empower musicians to explore new sonic territories while retaining the nuance of traditional performance techniques.

Description

This introductory core studio offers exposure to key aspects of Interaction Design. Students will learn the fundamentals of ethical design practices for emerging technologies while exploring a variety of media and contexts for interaction design. Students engage in all aspects of the design process: research, analysis, iteration, prototyping, presentation and evaluation in order to meet the required objectives through individual and group projects. Discussion and reflection help students make informed decisions about the development of their project work and the direction of their professional interests.
