Research Interests

With a background and practice in communication design, Jean brings two interwoven perspectives to her work at Emily Carr. First, her ongoing exploration of place-based design, looking at how we come to understand, engage and react to the layered and interwoven systems that form the places we inhabit, and second, Jean's resolve to support and form collectives, working with faculty, students and our local community to move from siloed disciplines towards emergent grassroots relationships, capacity sharing and action. Jean hopes to continue to foster these approaches and practices within our programs and connect our work with the broader design community and place-based knowledge holders.
