Bio

Egan Henderson is a game developer and researcher, teaching about games along with creating games of their own. Their research focus is on trans* and nonbinary experiences and how they can be explored and discovered through virtual reality. Coming from a background in game development offers them an inside perspective on how to study games and their systems. Having completed an undergrad degree in game programming and a MA in Cultural Studies, Egan continues to be interested in what games mean to their players and how games are developed to elicit particular sensations.

Description

Gain the foundational knowledge necessary to formulate a vision for a video game, and learn how to effectively communicate that idea. From understanding your audience and different players, to recognizing common industry jargon, this course explores essential principles of game design. Through hands-on assignments, discussions and presentations, you will explore introductory design topics such as randomness and strategy, rules and players when defining an idea for a game. By the end of this course, you will understand how different people approach games from different perspectives and how to use that knowledge to create a more holistic experience that appeals to a wider audience.
