Research Interests

Her creative research examines shifting roles and responsibilities within relationships, particularly the undervalued labour of care work taken on by women in domestic and other spheres. Informed by historical photographic practices, such as 19th-century “hidden mother” photography, and archival images, Claudia considers gesture as a way to surface the complexities of human interaction and communicate internal states. Through photographic staging and material form, her work creates space for collaboration and reflection. Her teaching draws on the values of her creative practice, incorporating a care-based pedagogy, a material-focused approach to experimentation, and the development of both technical and conceptual skills in photography and installation. She emphasizes process, and thoughtful planning for the viewer’s experience, as an act of care. She also encourages experimentation as a generative and supportive tool, one that helps students think beyond conventional approaches to art making.
