Description

Explore key aspects of creating appealing, original character concept art for games and film industries. This course introduces the essentials of character development - from references, narrative, body structure, facial expressions, clothing and props - to build a character’s attitude and story. Using a range of techniques and media, you will experiment with different materials, styles and software to develop a powerful, believable character from start to finish. By the end of the course, you will understand the industry-standard process for creating character concept art, with various character concepts and environment sets for your portfolio.

What You'll Learn

  1. Understand how characters differ in the gaming and film industries
  2. Use a reference or mood board to illustrate a character
  3. Apply appropriate writing structure for character biographies and storyline
  4. Demonstrate iterative drawing techniques for character turnarounds.
  5. Use photos, 2D textures and 3D assets to create both a 2D and 3D animation version of a character
  6. Create studies of 2D, 3D and game background environment layouts for your characters
  7. Assemble a Style Guide for a show pitch deck
