Description

Rapid visualization is a systematic and effective approach to drawing creative 3D objects and concepts using traditional or digital media. This technique is widely applicable across various fields including industrial design, communication design, illustration, architecture, furniture design, and interior design. Through a combination of short lectures, demonstrations, discussions, in-class exercises and assignments, you will learn applicable theories of perspective and orthographic projection, as well as principles of highlights, shading and reflection. You will acquire techniques for producing well-proportioned freehand sketches and basic renderings. These skills will help you create, develop, and present your designs effectively, utilizing visual thinking strategies to address various design challenges.

What You'll Learn

  1. Apply visual problem-solving techniques through additive and subtractive sketching methods
  2. Enhance 2D patterns and shapes by adding depth and dimension through shading techniques
  3. Render basic geometry and proportions of objects using 3-point perspective from orthographic views
  4. Produce monochromatic sketch renderings
  5. Apply the “grey-paper-rendering” techniques to create coloured sketch renderings
