Description

Designers cultivate inspiration and solutions through an intentional creative process. This introductory graphic design course will explore the fundamental phases of the creative process, emphasizing design thinking—a human-centered approach to problem-solving. Through research, collaboration, and iteration, develop visual solutions and use mood boards to refine ideas. Learn to articulate design decisions with clear creative rationale and engage in constructive critique to strengthen projects. Demystify the creative process and explore fundamental communication design methods through all phases of a creative design practice. No prior design experience or software skills are required.

What You'll Learn

  1. Use design vocabulary to articulate creative rationale, explain processes, and effectively communicate design decisions.
  2. Explore and apply design principles such as contrast, scale, repetition, alignment, and colour theory to organize elements and achieve deliberate visual and emotional effects.
  3. Employ Gestalt theory, grids and compositional strategies to structure layouts that effectively communicate meaning and guide visual flow.
  4. Use creative problem solving to solve visual communication challenges both independently and collaboratively
  5. Evaluate existing designs for compositional issues and propose improvements.
  6. Manipulate design elements to create or enhance meaning and influence interpretation.
