YOUR FIRST YEAR

Start here. Explore, experiment and find your creative path.

All undergraduate programs begin with a foundation year, where you will explore art, design and media while developing essential creative, critical thinking and writing skills.

Through hands-on projects, reading, dialogue and reflection, you’ll develop your voice, form connections and gain the confidence to choose your path forward.

Two students work together at laptops, smiling and talking in a classroom setting.

What You’ll Learn

Foundation Year introduces you to essential studio skills, critical thinking and research. Through creative projects, you’ll work with both digital and physical materials while exploring the history and theory behind contemporary art and design.

Faculty and visiting artists will challenge you to stretch your thinking, refine your ideas and consider the impact of your work.

By the end of the year, you’ll have developed a strong artistic foundation, a deeper understanding of your creative process and a clear path forward in your chosen discipline.
