Zoom Now Available to ECU Students

Here's what you need to know as about how to access your new videoconferencing account.


Starting today, an ECU Zoom account is available to all current degree and full-time Continuing Studies students. This account will remain valid so long as students remain enrolled.

Having an ECU Zoom account will allow students to create and host their own Zoom meetings. Please note that a Zoom account is not required in order to participate in others’ Zoom meetings, such as a class run on Zoom by faculty.

To create a new ECU Zoom account:

    • First, download the latest version of the ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ application at zoom.us/download. When the application is launched, the following screen will appear:
      • Click on “Sign In with SSO” (circled in red, above). Once you have done so, the following "Sign In with SSO" pop-up window will appear:
      • PLEASE NOTE: If your pop-up window looks like the one below, please click on the “I know the company domain” link next to the “Continue” button, and it will take you to the “Sign In with SSO” window, as seen above.
      • Next, enter “emilycarru” into the “Your company domain” field, as circled in red, below:
      • Click “Continue.” You will be forwarded to ECU’s Single Sign On (SSO) portal, where you can use your ECU credentials to sign in. Signing in will launch a form titled “Information to be Provided to Service”:
      • The second option which reads, “Ask me again if information to be provided to this service changes” (circled in red, above) should already be selected. If not, select it now.

      • Click “Accept,” at the bottom right. This one-time consent is required as the final step to set-up your ECU Zoom account. This step ensures data used in ECU’s Zoom accounts is stored in Canada and meets FIPPA regulations.

      • You’re ready to use Zoom!

      All new ECU Zoom accounts are hosted on Canadian data centres, and meet FIPPA requirements.

      Students with ECU Zoom accounts can record to their personal computers, but not to the cloud.
