2025 Convocation Ceremony

Congratulations! You are part of the largest graduating cohort in Emily Carr University's history.

This year’s Convocation ceremony will take place at the UBC Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

There will be two ceremonies:

Ceremony 1 at 10:00am will celebrate graduates from Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Media Arts.

Ceremony 2 at 2:30pm will celebrate graduates from Master of Fine Arts, Master of Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts and NMSA and CRCP students.

You only need to show up for your ceremony (not both). Please be sure to show up to the ceremony for your degree.

Be sure to watch your ecuad.ca email account. You will soon be receiving emails about Convocation.

All of these emails will have Graduation in the subject line and will contain important deadlines that you need to follow in order to attend the Convocation ceremony.

Graduation regalia includes a gown, hood and cap. You don't have to wear regalia. If you do not want to wear regalia, you do not need to complete this process.

Regalia package

  • The graduation regalia package rental is $42. If you rent the regalia, you can keep the cap and tassel after the ceremony.
  • To rent the regalia package, go to our Build-A-Grad site. Please have your debit or credit card ready. The deadline to rent a regalia package is March 31, 2025 at 11:59 pm.

Your regalia will be available at the Chan Centre on the day of the ceremony. You will collect your regalia after you have checked in for the ceremony. You will have 30 minutes after the ceremony to take photos in your regalia before you will need to return it.

    Cap + tassel only

    • If you would like to wear a cap and tassel only (no gown and hood) you can purchase this on the day of Convocation for $20. You can keep the cap and tassel after the ceremony.

    As you cross the stage at graduation, your chosen/cultural name will be announced while your name, photograph and an image of your artwork are projected on a large screen. 

    We use a website called NameCoach to collect all this information. 

    Check your email for an invitation from NameCoach from the address "no-reply@name-coach.com". If you don't see it in your inbox, check your spam folder.

    Please note that your chosen/cultural name will also be used in the ceremony pamphlet, viewable by all guests of the event. Be sure to type your name exactly the way you would like it displayed.

    After you have submitted your information to NameCoach, you can upload an image of your artwork to this Dropbox.

    • The file name must be your student ID
    • Please upload only one image 
    • Maximum file size of 10MB 
    • JPEG format  

    If you have urgent changes to the information submitted, please email namecoach@ecuad.ca

    DEADLINE EXTENDED: The NameCoach site and artwork image upload Dropbox will close at 11 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025.

    Submissions after the deadline cannot be accepted. 

    As a graduating student, you do not need a ticket.

    You can order up to 2 tickets for family and friends to attend the ceremony.

    Tickets can be ordered directly from the UBC Chan Centre Box Office. We will send out instructions on how to order on April 7, 2025.

    The order deadline is April 21. If any tickets are still available after that, they will be released on April 23.

    If you are unable to get tickets for some of your guests, we invite them to join the stand-by line on the day of the event in the case of no shows.

    All graduating students have the opportunity to have professional graduation photos taken at Artona at an additional cost.

    Book your session here.

    There is no cost to book an appointment, but you will need a debit or credit card to secure your time. Students are not charged until the time of the photo session. At the session, students pay a $60 deposit that can be used towards a purchase later. If you choose not to order, you can return the photos within 30 days for a refund of the $60.

    Students and families can then purchase their photos online, with both digital and print options available

    The Artona studio is located at 353 West 7th Ave, Vancouver.

    Convocation Day Schedule

    Parchments will be available to collect at the ceremony. If you're not attending, you will be able to collect your parchment from Student Services from May 12.

    Ceremony 1: 10:00am
    Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Media Arts students

    9:00am: Check-in at the RBC entrance at the UBC Chan Centre. Get ready to put on your regalia.

    9:45am: All students must be gowned and lined up, ready to start the procession.

    10:00am : Ceremony begins.

    11:45am: Ceremony ends. Students head back into student rooms.

    12:15pm: Drop off your regalia and celebrate!

    Ceremony 2: 2:30pm
    Master of Fine Arts, Master of Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts and NMSA and CRCP students

    1:00pm: Check-in at the RBC entrance at the UBC Chan Centre. Get ready to put on your regalia.

    2:15pm: All students must be gowned and lined up, ready to start the procession
