Vedic Resistance is a work that aims to honour the resilience of conquered peoples in post-colonial society. The unfired clay sculpture plays off the image of Lord Shiva by substituting symbols of resistance and speaks to the retention of culture.

About the Artist

Yaazhin Pillay is a South African, multi-medium artist, interested in decolonial action and the dismantling of apartheid structures. His work focuses on heritage, resistance and the disfigurement of modern society.
