The Birtle Residential School opened in 1894 and closed its doors in 1972. It is my intention to document the space to allow more to access it as a step towards reconciliation and acknowledgement of Canada’s troubled history.
About the Artist
Lilian Rose Smith is an emerging queer Métis photographer from British Columbia, Canada. Lilian's work has been exhibited in Vancouver, BC including Hot Art Wet City, The Gallery of BC Ceramics, and The Polygon Gallery.
Emily Carr Students are eligible to submit their work for consideration in the Showcase.
