Graduation year: 2015
In partnership with Providence Health Care, the Health Design Lab at Emily Carr collaborated to design a robotic cart that would be used to more efficiently delivery supplies and tools to clinicians in their proposed new ambulatory care building.
The purpose of the cart is to facilitate the use of flexible work spaces that would be shared across departments. After conducting extensive user research at St. Paul’s Hospital, design students Darryl Agawin and Jeremy Calhoun identified the design direction and gathered key insights leading to the conceptualization of a robotic, mobile medical unit which created a simple and efficient system of delivering medical supplies from storage to examination room. Keeping with a clear visual language, the unit allowed for seamless interaction with various hospital staff at every point of contact during its use cycle.
