Design Wood Shop

The Design Wood Shop (C3220) is a serial production and prototyping facility accommodating a range of materials and processes. The shop is outfitted with industrial machinery and tooling, supporting processes such as cutting, joining, bending, veneering, milling, carving, assembling and finishing. Facilities include: Advanced Processes + Research Shop (C3240), Assembly Room (C3244), Ventilation Room (C3247) and Ventilation Booth (C3226).

General AccessDesign Wood Shop access is available for students enrolled in design courses.
OrientationTo work in the shop, students are required to complete the Shop Tour and Essential Skills* (Bandsaw, Drill Press, Sanders) modules on Moodle. Essential Skills must be completed each semester for access.

*Online and practical test required.
EquipmentMost equipment in the shop requires the completion of an online video module, online test and in-person practical test with a technician prior to use. Students cannot use equipment or work in processes they have not been trained in.
BookingWhen working in the shop, students should book work sessions via the online booking system.
Request SupportStudents and ECU community members who would like access to Design Wood Shop facilities can submit a Request for Support form. Capacity to support each request will be reviewed on an individual basis.
