What is sexual violence and misconduct?
Sexual violence is any physical, verbal or psychological act that targets an individual’s sexuality. It may take place in person or online. It can include physical acts, like unwanted touching, groping, kissing, or forced intercourse. It can also include actions like distributing explicit photographs and videos without consent, stalking, verbal comments or gestures, threats, or exploitation.
Sexual misconduct involves an abuse of power where consent can not be freely given.
Anyone can perpetrate sexual violence and anyone can be a survivor, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or relationship status. No one deserves to experience sexual violence. It’s not your fault.
If you’re not sure whether you’ve experienced sexual violence, you can still reach out for support and guidance.
What is gender-based violence?
Gender-based violence targets an individual’s gender. It may include dead-naming, incorrect gendering, or revealing an individual’s gender without consent. It may also include sexualized elements, like harassment, degrading imagery, or stalking.
