ECU President Emeritus Dr. Ron Burnett promoted to Officer of the Order of Canada

Dr. Burnett was recognized for his contributions to arts education and leadership.
Dr. Ron Burnett, President Emeritus of Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECU), has been promoted an Officer of the Order of Canada. This recognition highlights his contributions to art and design education and his leadership during his 22-year tenure as President, including overseeing the university’s relocation to the Great Northern Way campus. This honour reflects his lasting impact on the arts and creative education in Canada. He has been a member of the Order of Canada since 2012 and a member of the Order of British Columbia since 2015.
In addition to Dr. Burnett’s promotion, Vancouver-based artist and ECU alumn Stan Douglas has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada. A graduate of ECU’s Fine Arts (Photography) program in 1982, Stan is known for his multimedia works that explore historical events and the role of technology in shaping memory. His contributions reflect the creative excellence fostered within the university community.
