President Gillian Siddall Featured on 'How I Lead Change' Podcast

She and host Shaheen Chaudhary discussed how ECU is using creativity to transform during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how we are addressing systemic racism, social injustice and other social inequities in our institution.
On Oct. 20, the “How I Lead Change” podcast, a global for executives leading change initiatives, featured President + Vice-Chancellor Gillian Siddall. Previous guests have included UBC President Santa Ono, outgoing Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, and Vancouver Airport CEO Tamara Vrooman.
In the interview, Gillian spoke candidly about challenges faced by ECU during the COVID-19 pandemic and how the community has adapted to change, as well as how we are addressing critical issues like colonialism, systemic racism, and climate change.
I think we’re at a point where profound transformation is needed to address huge global problems, including tremendous social and economic inequity. Millions of people facing poverty, food insecurity, and violent oppression; the climate catastrophe; racism, homophobia, transphobia; so many manifestations of discrimination and oppression. Universities have the capacity and the responsibility to address these challenges, and that makes the work we all do within our institutions very important.”
